The LATimes, my hometown paper, just took a big drop in credibility today. The Times has been wracked with confusion for a while (almost since the day the Trib bought it) and the Op-Ed page has reflected that most clearly. With the hiring and rapid departure of Kinsley as the editorial editor, to the laggardly replacement crew, they've been erratic and unfocused.
And today, it is announced they've dropped Robert Scheer, probably the most informed and prescient columnist writing today. They also dropped Gelernter, so it's not ALL bad.
For those who crave their Scheer (and who doesn't?), he will be posting a weekly column on HuffPo (and I assume still on Creators). He's also starting up a commentary webstire, truthdig.
It's just sad to see a great paper heading south.
