Reckless Republicans Respond To Deadly Derailment With More Proposed Cuts To Amtrak

With their renowned brilliance, acclaimed sensitity, and heroic grasp of situational optics, a House committee has voted to cut $251 million from Amtrak's upcoming budget. Taking a heroic stance against competence and skill and planning, they pared almost 10 percent from the budget. Given yesterday's surprise reduction in ridership, it would surprise no one if they used the reduced load level (at least 7 fewer riders and perhaps several hundred more) to justify their bravely cutting even deeper. They should be applauded for sticking to their principals (however flawed) in the face of obvious need to move in the opposite direction. Surely, they will reap a fine reward at the ballot box! </sarcasm>
