No on 8!

According to the LATimes this morning, the no voters on Prop 8 in CA (the anti-gay-marriage prop) still outnumber the no voters. But this is an important issue and I want to exhort every THINKING Californian to get out and vote this execrable piece of idiocy down.

If it weren't bad enough on the face of it that we're trying to amend the Constitution to LIMIT rights, this is the lovechild of a very strange marriage; the Catholic Church and the Mormon Church. The Catholics have decided that you molest kids and be reassigned, but if you want to marry your partner, you must be prevented absolutely. The Mormons are apparently worried that this will cut down the number of men available to marry multiple wives. I'm just saying......

Anyway, if you're from CA, and are considering not voting since there's no urgency at the Presidential level, shut the fuck up and get out and vote. Vote this puppy down while you're there, too.

I'll do a round up of our selection of godforsaken props before the election with my thoughts and recommendations for voting for/against.

UPDATE:

John @ Americablog has a post on this that's worth reading.

the conclusion:

I don't know much about the Mormon faith. I do know that, as a Christian myself, I find some of their beliefs a bit, well, different (such as the belief that Jesus and the devil were brothers). What I do know about Mormons are three things:

1. Donny and Marie.
2. The choir.
3. Their church really seems to hate gays, a lot.

Put aside the fact, for a moment, that a people who were persecuted, and run out of their homes, for being different really ought not be doing the same to another persecuted people. (And really put aside the fact that one of the reasons Mormons were persecuted was because of their beliefs on marriage.) If the Mormon Church is so concerned about being a part of the mainstream religious club, about being loved by other faiths across America, then why are they saddling up to one of the most reviled groups of bigots in America?

Hell of a well to win friends and influence people.
