Sen Santorum's repeated attempts to get a cap on 'non-economic' awards in malpractice suits (ie, 'pain and suffering') would apparently have screwed his wife (insert your own joke here.) In 1999, Mrs Santorum sued her chiropractor for botching a back adjustment.
She sued for $500,000 (twice the proposed limit) and was awarded more than $300,000. Santorum said he was supporting his wife's endeavours, and that maybe his proposed limit was just a suggestion (he's 'suggested' it AT LEAST twice).
