Please Stop!

I'm getting very tired of the whole 'Obama lied' meme. Let's just stop it now. Obama did NOT pledge to use the federal financing system; he promised to use it IF his opponent(s) also promised to do so. Until last night, AFTER Obama announced, McBush had let on and acted as if HE intended to opt out. After Obama announced, Lil Johnny announced that he WOULD indeed opt in. This actually works to McBush's advantage in a couple of ways.

One, he's in, Obama's out. Obama has the capacity to raise a HUGE amount of cash (in almost exactly the way the system was designed to promote, small contribs from a large number of people, but that's another post). If he does so, McCain will receive additional amounts from the feds to match or correlate in some way to Obama's takes (there is a formula for figuring the amount he gets, but I dont have it handy)

Two, McBush is having trouble raising the traditional bucks that Repugs normally can churn out in their sleep. The base isn't crazy about him, his maverick reputation hurts him with the super-rich wingnuts that are the ATM for the party, and the religious freaks don't trust him enough to give him money (yet, anyway.) So, he NEEDS the federal funds. Plus, he may be OBLIGED to opt in, since he earlier said he would, then said he wouldn't, and only an incomplete FEC has kept him from being barbecued for that, to this point. It is likely now that the Spakovksy brouhaha is over, the FEC will be filled to the point that it can reach a quorum.

Three, and most annoying, the little timing ploy gives him, or at least his surrogates (which last night appeared to be EVERYONE in the MSM) the ammo to snipe at Obama for 'changing his position'. Screw them all. Just stop the nonsense

He did NOT change his position. He exercise the option he said he would take. His opponent was not opting in, his coffers were filling, and he had to fish or cut bait. He decided to fish, and only THEN did his opponent decide to cut bait, and whine about the damned fisherman!
