"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead (Mostly what other say will be in italics, what I say will not. There will be occasions when this is messed up or forgotten, but generally it will true- for those keeping track of the opining vs the reporting!)

Watch: Megyn Kelly Skewers Rand Paul for Constantly Losing His Temper On Air | Occupy Democrats
I could learn to like Megan Kelly (okay, no I couldn't!) Apparently, Randie-poo is NOT Fox Noise's anointed candidate. I don't watch them enough to know who is. Any masochists out there, let us know who they're making nice-nice with.
Rand Paul And The Nasty Campaign To Turn Pro-Choice Women Into Monsters | ThinkProgress
Repugs and their buddies the Christers want to shrink government til it's small enough to fit in your vagina. I was gonna be crude, but I'll clean it up.... vote with your feet, ladies!
Florida Pastor: It’s a Man’s World Because Real Leaders Have a Penis – VIDEO
Well, I'll agree that most leaders, particularly amongst Repugs and so-called Christians, ARE dicks. Having them is just an accident of sex. I mean, come one, Phyllis Schlafly and Ann Coulter are as big a dick as anyone out there, and neither of them come 'equipped'. Well, I'm certain Phyllis doesn't.... ;)
(I know, more dick jokes! Whatcha gonna do? <sigh>)

As Hillary Announces For President, Four Questions She Should Answer | ThinkProgress
I think she'll make a good President and I KNOW she'll make a great candidate. But the article is right. She needs to answer these (and few other) questions. I'd prefer she answered them 'correctly', as I'd really like to get a somewhat less corporate Dem in the White House, but win lose or draw, I'll vote for her, cuz the thought of a Repug, particularly any of the human refuse who're currently making noises about running, in the White House is too terrible to consider. And we need to find out if she was a Girl Scout so we can counter Walker's Commander-in-Chief credentials! ;)
Scott Walker Appointee Suggests Volcanoes Might Be Real Cause Of Global Warming
Can we just nuke Wisconsin and get this over with? The drip drip drip of the constant stream of idiocy, chicanery (when's the last time you saw THAT word?!?!), and obfuscation out of the state in general and Walker in particular is debilitating in its soul-deadening continuity. It's like he's in competition with the crazy cop of the day story for top billing. MAKE IT STOP!
Obama Rips Walker as an Empty Suit and Denounces Homophobic RFRA Laws as Un-Christian
"Scott Walker is a joke and this time everyone is noticing. It's been one fuck up after another since he started running for President. He compared union nurses and teachers to ISIS. He stated he's qualified to command the military because he served in the boy scouts."
Preparing for presidental run, Rick Santorum proudly trumpets his record of anti-gay bigotry
He's so far beneath contempt, it's almost not worth mocking him. But if we stop mocking him, he might rise and be taken seriously :)
Good news: Ted Cruz recuses self from having opinions on anything that happened before 1970
"As is the Constitution [pre-1970], which is worth more than all the others combined; if we can convince Ted Cruz that he is no longer qualified to give his opinions on what the Constitution says or what the Founding Fathers were thinking during any given lunchtime, we could render the man nearly silent in one stroke."
Apology
I made a tasteless dick joke earlier in a post about Repugs. I would like to apologize. It was uncalled for; Lindsey hasn't announced yet ;)
Comcast won't allow man whose home burned down cancel cable
Iyee! They're all scum. From the top to the bottom. I feel sorry for the guys at the bottom, but they're scum for sticking with jobs at companies that do shit like this. Fuck 'em all.
College Kid Schools 2 Cops at B-Ball, so they try to Arrest Him
More crazy cop shit! At least, no shots were fired and no one died, except maybe these cops' reputations.

Dobson is one of those guys I'd like to run down in a car, then back over just to make sure... and that was BEFORE this asininity.
Endorse This: Dinesh D'Souza — Unleashed! - The National Memo
All I have to say is that the penalties for white collar crime are too lenient! I'd have settled for Life without the Possibility of a TV Chair.... :)
Until We Tackle Segregation, White Cops Will Keep Shooting Black People
"American history reveals that black people’s relationship with the police has been one of attempted subjugation since the birth of the nation. Whether slave patrols or the Black Codes, whether the 3,959 lynchings of Black people between 1877 and 1950 or a neo-slavery system of convict leasing, the history of American policing is replete with the message that black lives don’t matter."
Did A Federal Court Just Doom The GOP's Big Immigration Lawsuit Against Obama?
Gee! A federal court tosses a lawsuit by a southern state that would allow more discrimination against immigrants. Who coulda seen THAT coming? :)

Rand Paul says the stuff he said before is now off-limits
Randie did this to Kelly Evans on CNBC in February. Kelly is no tv-bimbo. Can Randie say the same?
Tom Cotton Suggests War With Iran Would Be A Breeze | ThinkProgress
Okay... find everyone in DC or in the media who agrees with him, put them on a plane, and kick them out somewhere between Baghdad and the ISIS held territories. Parachutes optional.
Police officer to face murder charges for shooting man in back 8 times
Good resolution to this. Will an SC jury convict him? Maybe not, but at least his career is over.
Ted Cruz: Congress Should Strip Federal Courts Of Jurisdiction To Rule On Marriage Equality
Ted Cruz loves him some Constitution. Like the bible... he likes about six lines out of it and absolutely hates the rest. I hate to even ponder the rats nest his brain must be...
Dick Cheney sets new low for Unmitigated Gall, calls Obama "the worst president we’ve ever had"
Well, he's the worst President we've had since Shrub. Who, arguably, WAS the worst President we've ever had.
Sen. Schumer and 7 other Democrats are making a terrible choice siding with GOP on Iran bill
Two thoughts. This one reason never ever to vote for Repugs (there are a lot of other reasons, too!) The other is that we need to be electing 'better' Dems. Ones less yoked to the black-white view of the world and more progressive on other issues. Schumer has a history of being a (chicken-) hawk on foreign policy and also of being pro-big-business (fanatically). Both of these are bad in the long run, and, here, in the short run, too!
The "Special Snowflake" Syndrome of American Conservatives
I love the term 'special snowflake.' It so perfectly encapsulates these asswipes view of themselves and their oh so special, deserving-of-the-protection-they're-denying-to-others beliefs. Someone please beat them into submission with a copy of the Constitution!

Republicans are not conservative: They are Radical Fundamentalists
I've said repeatedly that the Tea Party IS the American Taliban. Since they've basically co-opted the mainstream of the Repugs, they've changed it from a conservative but fundamentally good-hearted party into a force for the evil that is radical fundamentalism, in the name of whatever religion. Christians do not kill people, but radical Republicans (feel like I'm back in the 1860s...) kill abortionists and blow up clinics. Christians do not hate, but radical conservatives blow up federal courthouses. Christians preach peach, but radical Republicans fly planes into buildings... oh wait, that was their cousins-in-hate. Christians preach peace, but radical Republicans think the answer to everything in foreign policy is bombing and "boots on the ground' (hopefully, after the bombing has stopped!) The current GOP is a giant tumor on the body politic of America. We will not be well again until that tumor has been shrunk or excised.
(If you hadn't noticed, I'm really enjoying these 'classic' Kos posts) :)
I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaaack
Sorry if you missed me. I ended up in the hospital for hip surgery last year, didn't have connectivity in the hospital or in rehab, and haven't taken much time to post online since then. Anyway, I'm back now, so hide the children and the Repuglicans!!

We could take about a half percent of the military budget and make higher education free for everyone. You know, like most of the rest of the western world. It's a huge drain on the economy (indebted students have (much) less money to spend) generally and debilitating to grads who have to keep a job, even the wrong one or a hated one, just to pay back these often predatory loans. Can we at least move into the 20th century on this? I know we can't move into the 21st until the last Repug lies dead with a stake thru his heart, but can we at least try to catch up to the LAST century?

On July 4, A Message For Patriots Of All Persuasions - The National Memo:
...Let’s begin at the official beginning. Although “right” and “left” didn’t define political combat at that time on these shores, there isn’t much doubt that behind the American Revolution, and in particular the Declaration of Independence, was not only a colonial elite but a cabal of left-wing radicals as well.
How else to describe Samuel Adams and Thomas Paine, the revolutionary idealists who declared their contempt for monarchy and aristocracy? It is true that many of their wealthier and more cautious comrades in the Continental Congress disdained Adams as a reckless adventurer “of bankrupt fortune,” and Paine as a rabble-rousing scribbler. Of course popular democracy was a wildly radical doctrine in colonial times, tamed in the writing of the Constitution by the new nation’s land-owning elites and slaveholders...

Democrats need women to vote, Hobby Lobby will deliver:
The polling among women already looks brutal for the GOP.
The polling among women already looks brutal for the GOP.
At this point in 2010, Democrats had a narrow congressional-preference lead with women (44%-43%), and the GOP had a significant advantage with white women (51%-36%). Now? Democrats hold a double-digit with all women (50%-38%), and white women are pretty much a jump ball (GOP 45%, Dems 44%).

The Compelling Conclusion About Capitalism That Piketty Resists:
The excesses of capitalism are not simply a question of bad management and a political unwillingness to properly regulate it by imposing the right sort of checks and balances, but symptoms of a fundamentally and irretrievably flawed system that tends toward destruction of human and other life.
I don't agree entirely, but I can see their point.
