Ayn Rand Worshippers Should Face Facts: Blue States Are the Providers, Red States Are the Parasites | | AlterNet
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead (Mostly what other say will be in italics, what I say will not. There will be occasions when this is messed up or forgotten, but generally it will true- for those keeping track of the opining vs the reporting!)

A Conservative Explains Why Right-Wingers Have No Compassion | Visions | AlterNet
Great read on how truly weird the truly right wing is. This sums up a lot of it:
"The hard right has never protested the de facto abrogation of much of the Bill of Rights during the last decade. In the right-wing id, freedom is the emotional release that a hostile and psychologically repressed person feels when he is finally able to lash out at the objects of his resentment. Freedom is his prerogative to rid himself of people who are different, or who unsettle him. Freedom is merging into a like-minded herd. Right-wing alchemy transforms freedom into authoritarianism."

How an Attractive, Undercover Cop Posed as a Student -- Then Entrapped a Smitten Teen to "Sell" Her Marijuana | | AlterNet
Can we just kill the drug war or is the desire to turn narcs loose to entrap people so deeply entrenched that we'll never be rid of it, despite years of it failing and failing, and the complete militarization (and alienation) of our police from the general populace?

I can't see anyway this load of crap doesn't violate several sections of the Constitution. But then, Repugs only love selected parts of the Constitution, so full speed ahead!

Moochers Against Welfare - NYTimes.com
Presumably, then, voters imagine that pledges to slash government spending mean cutting programs for the idle poor, not things they themselves count on. And this is a confusion politicians deliberately encourage.

Senate Passes Payroll Tax Bill Over Broad GOP Opposition | TPMDC
I've mixed feelings about this tax 'cut' since it reduces funds going to Social Security, which can only add, down the road, to arguments that the program is underfunded, blah blah blah, but I think in the current economic situation, it's probably justified and am pleased that a) Obama and Congress were able to get it done and b) that the Repugs folded like a cheap card-table!

Rick Santorum's Anal Sex Problem | Mother Jones
In reference to Jon Stewart's Santorum problem, here's a great article from a year or so ago about why it IS a big problem for Mr Man on Dog. I googled Santorum (I try to at least once a week to click on the 'definition' and help keep it at the top) and discovered that the campaign has followed at least one of the suggestions made in the article; the top link is a paid ad by the campaign. The second 'link' is (as with all the candidates) recent primary results. But, still in first place amid the actual search results is our frothy mix :)

Democratic Women Boycott House Contraception Hearing After Republicans Prevent Women From Testifying | AlterNet
My neighbor, Darrell, the World's Worst Repug, is holding a hearing concerning the 'raging' birth control debate (hey, it's raging in their heads, if no where else!) How many women were invited to testify? You got it. ZERO. When asked to include one, Mr. Issa declined the opportunity to hear from the horse's ummmm mouth... ;)

But the key is that when Republicans recognized that the public was wise to them — that their tactics were putting a popular policy in jeopardy — they backed off.

Krugman on Conservative 'Reality Aversion'
Severe Conservative Syndrome - NYTimes.com:
How did American conservatism end up so detached from, indeed at odds with, facts and rationality? For it was not always thus. After all, that health reform Mr. Romney wants us to forget followed a blueprint originally laid out at the Heritage Foundation!
My short answer is that the long-running con game of economic conservatives and the wealthy supporters they serve finally went bad.
