Did They Look Behind the Sofa?

Oopsies. In what is, I'm SURE, a horrible accident, the footage on Palin's website, showing ummm ethically challenged Sen Ted Stevens endorsing her, has vanished! Call Sherlock Holmes! These thieves cannot be left unpunished!

Awwwww

Apparently, Romney and Pawlenty are suffering hurt feelings and feeling used in the wake of being used as a blind for McCain's selection of Palin. Awww. Poor Little Mittens got a booboo on his soul?

Not So Good?

Robert Elisberg at Huffpo apparently doesn't think much of Palin's nomination for Veep. His article is entitled:

The Worst Vice-Presidential Nominee in U.S. History.

He makes his points well. To which, I say, GREAT!!

(I do disagree on one point. My biggest question is not "Who in God's name are you, and please tell us why you should be a heart-beat from the presidency," it's "Are you related to (Monty Python's) Michael Palin?" That would at least make her a FUN candidate!)

It's Official

Wow! The moment I never thought I'd see in my lifetime has arrived! We have, only a century and a half after the Civil War, a black candidate of a major party for the Presidency of these United States. Hot damn, Betty Lou!

When I was a kid, my church (probably the richest, whitest church on the planet (all the Hunts AND H. Ross Perot....)) did a lot of work with black churches in South Dallas and Oak Cliff. This is maybe a half decade after the end of whites only lunch counters, water fountains, bus seats, etc. If you'd told me then that, in my lifetime, this would happen, I'd have laughed my ass off. It's seemed less unrealistic since then, but still, very much a longshot.

Whether or not Obama wins (and please, God, let him win... I'm not sure we can survive another four years of these bozos!), today is a MAJOR day in the history of the USA. Kids today can tell their grandkids where they were when they heard the news that finally, FINALLY, some little piece of MLK's dream was realized.

(and kudos to HRC, both for the GREAT speech last night, and the classy call for acclimation today!)

Suburbia

Kevin Drum, at Political Animal, has been blogging off and on for a while about the future of suburbia, vis a vis the recent run-up in the price of gas. There's been a lot of negativity (not so much on Kevin's part) about the future of the suburbs in the face of $4-$5-$10 or whatever gasoline. Kevin gives a sort of summation of his views, which make sense to me, and basically says, don't worry too much. Change is coming, but none of too drastic, or at least, not too traumatic.

UPDATE: Note that almost as soon as I posted this, Kevin announced he was leaving PA and moving over to Mother Jones. Great for MJ, not too bad for PA since they've got a great 'back up' crew!) His new site is now listed on the right, ===>

Seven Year (B)Itch

Ah, the sweet memories. Seven years ago today, our Beloved Leader received the (now) famed 'Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the U.S.' PDB and quipped that the CIA guy had now covered his ass, can we move on, yadda yadda yadda...... Aintcha glad he's in charge?!?!
