Milestone

CNN is announcing (no link) that we have reached a milestone in Iraq. 4000 American troops have now died in the War of Bush's Ego. Requiescat in pace.

Obama Passport Flap

This is breaking as we speak so very few details. It appears there was a breach of protocol/security at the State Dept, sometime in January of this year, and 'contract employees' of State accessed Obama's (and his wife's?) passport files. No damage or other effects have been announced. The issues seem to be the breach of privacy for no reason and the shameful tardiness of the Bush Administration to notify the Obamas. More to come, certainly.

Going, Going, Gone

two big news resignations this week, one expected, one not. First was Adm. Fallon, the CentCom commander, who was, as Atrios put it, 'too sane for Bush' I don't think this is a good thing overall. (oops, it was Avedon, scribing FOR Atrios....)

The other was NY Gov, Eliot Spitzer. This was just a sad mess all the way around, and the sulfurous whiff of the Bu$hCo DOJ surrounding it just makes it mess-ier. I always liked Spitzer when he was AG in NY; much of what control of and brakes on the rapacity of the corps and financial markets during the Bush misrule was a result of Spitzer and his righteous anger. Well, turns out that his sexual mojo was even more 'righteous' than his anger, and he finally tripped over his own dick (altho, it appears that the tripping may have been choreographed.) Anyway, he resigned today.

I don't think this will have any earth-shaking consequences (altho his Lt Gov is apparently a blind black guy, so take that Barack!), but any negs for the Dems could be a liability down the road, when the RW noise machine gets wound up for the election.

It just reminds me again of the need to legalize (and regulate) prostitution. Of course, maybe the bluenoses are right. Banning liquor and drugs worked so well.

WOW!

The Dems win a HUGE one tonight, taking Denny Hastert's old seat in the Il-14. Foster, the Dem, won by a margin in a district that tends 5%+ points Republican. Well done all around guys.
